Step Two: This Is Awesome

After struggling to form ideas, you've finally done it!  This is the stage when you feel a desperate need to rush out to the hardware store and buy everything you might need to carry out your plan.  But wait, while I know this feeling is exciting, there are a few important questions to ask yourself and steps you should take before you buy $30.00 worth of PVC pipe only to discover later that the pipes are the wrong size.  Look at these tips on how to ensure that when you really do start creating, you have thought through every detail. 

This was always one of the most exciting parts of my DI experience.  I had a tendency to get very excited and overeager when we'd come up with the start of an idea, and rush to the store to buy the things we needed.  In 2015, during the Making Waves Scientific Challenge, my team and I finally figured out the design for our sound machine, and rushed to the store to buy everything we needed to build our self playing xylophone.  Much to our disappointment, after quite a bit of money and a substantial amount of time, we discovered that in our haste we had failed to realize that aluminum doesn't produce sound.
